The Salem UT dream mine of John Hyrum Koyle is a well- known story of the town. Koyle dreamed of mining rich ore on Salem's hillside. After selling shares in a venture, he dug a deep shaft. Unfortunately, he never found any ore. It was an expensive dream that didn't make any locals rich. This is why it is called the Salem dream mine.
